Digital Ignite with Alfie

03 September 2018 At Rowandale School we are very lucky to welcome Alfie who is part of the Digital Ignite, Mapura Matikito team. Digital Ignite deliver STEAM lessons to children all over Aotearoa. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Maths. We are very fortunate in #Whakapono21 that on Monday we were able to learn about an app called Makers Empire and 3D printing . The app called Makers Empire can be downloaded onto your phone, ipad or device at home. The app helps children to design different things. Once you have designed your product on Makers Empire you can then print it on a 3D printer. The students were really astounded by what they could do with a 3D printer. Pro8 Challenge

06 September 2018 On Thursday Ryley Swatton from #Whakapono21 was fortunate enough to be chosen to represent Rowandale School in the Pro8 Challenge. The challenge is a fun way to introduce children to different engineering and science principles. The children have tasks to do with varying difficulties that will help them to grow their knowledge in science and electronics. What a great effort by Solomon Isitolo, Agins Som, Ngaau Hurrell and of course Ryley Swatton. Our school team was awesome enough to come 4th! Here are a few photos of our children having the time of their life being innovative learners. Hmmm, I wonder what I should use?

Cook Island Language Week in full force.

Kia Orana: It's been a full on Māori Kūki 'Āirani Language Week! Children have that Participation improves their confidence and sense of belonging at Rowandale school. It was fantastic to see boys having fun and making the most of the culture. An awesome effort from Sophie, Maddison, Sharmina, Edna, Isis, who represented our class and did Team Whakapono proud with their dance! We love Cook Island dancing and their culture. A big thank you to all those "behind the scenes" people that made this week possible! One of the shining gemstones of Rowandale School is how we embrace cultural diversity. Children and teachers learn Empathy as they understand differences and similarities between themselves and others, and also helping each other out when we need it.
